The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

’Il fuq minn 40 000 sportiv minn fost 137 nazzjonalità differenti ħadu sehem fit-tellieqa ta’ 20 km ta’ Brussell, li fid-19 ta’ Mejju 2019 iċċelebrat l-40 anniversarju tagħha. Din is-sena, it-tellieqa kienet ikaratterizzata mill-elezzjonijiet Ewropej u mis-slogan “Din id-darba se nivvota”.
Kien hemm ukoll 1 373 kompetitur minn fost il-persunal tal-istituzzjonijiet Ewropej – li kienu lebsin flokkijiet bis-slogan “Running for Europe” – li għalhekk kienu rappreżentati ferm f’din it-18-il darba li ħadu sehem fit-tellieqa. Ir-Re Philippe ta s-sinjal biex tibda t-tellieqa fil-punt tat-tluq li kien il-Parc du Cinquantenaire, u flimkien miegħu kien hemm, Isabel Caño, Viċi President tal-KESE, Maroš Šefčovič, Viċi President tal-Kummissjoni Ewropea, u Jaume Duch Guillot, Direttur Ġenerali tal-Komunikaazzjoni fil-Parlament Ewropew. L-aħjar ħinijiet inkisbu minn Alexandra Tondeur fost in-nisa (1:13:04) u Valentin Poncelet fost l-irġiel (1:00:34). It-tim tal-KESE info jifraħ lill-kollegi tagħna kollha tal-Kumitat li ħarġu jtellqu fit-toroq tal-belt kapitali u qasmu l-linja tal-wasla, fost l-oħrajn: Eleonora di Nicolantonio, Karin Füssl, Jakob Andersen, Johannes Kind u Joaquin Calvo Basarán. Prosit lil kulħadd!
Il-Viċi President Isabel Caño rringrazzjat lill-parteċipanti kollha f’isem l-UE, u indirizzatilhom dan il-messaġġ: “Dan l-avveniment ħoloq atmosfera ta’ ferħ kbir, konvivjalità, kondiviżjoni, entużjażmu komuni u, fuq kollox, spirtu ta’ bejn l-aħwa”.
