The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

Több mint 40 000, 137 országból érkező futó vett részt a 20 kilométeres brüsszeli futóversenyen (20 kilomètres de Bruxelles), amely 2019. május 19-én ünnepelte 40. születésnapját. Az idei esemény az európai választások és a „Szavazni fogok” szlogen jegyében zajlott.
Az európai intézmények dolgozói, akik immár 18. alkalommal mérettették meg magukat a versenyen, nagy számban –1373-an – eljöttek, és büszkén viselték pólójukon a „Running for Europe” feliratot. A rajtpisztolyt Fülöp király sütötte el a Cinquantenaire parkban. Kíséretében jelen volt Isabel Caño, az EGSZB alelnöke, Maroš Šefčovič, az Európai Bizottság alelnöke és Jaume Duch Guillot, az Európai Parlament kommunikációs főigazgatója. A nőknél Alexandra Tondeur (1:13:04) futotta a legjobb időt, a férfiaknál pedig Valentin Poncelet (1:00:34). Az EGSZB info csapata gratulál az EGSZB valamennyi munkatársának, akik a főváros utcáin keresztül futva eljutatottak a célvonalig. Hogy csak néhányukat említsük: Eleonora di Nicolantonio, Karin Füssl, Jakob Andersen, Johannes Kind, Joaquin Calvo Basarán. Bravó!
Az EU nevében Isabel Caño, az EGSZB alelnöke köszönetet mondott a résztvevőknek, és beszédében megjegyezte: „Az öröm, bensőségesség, közös lelkesedés és legfőképp a testvériesség jó érzései lengték körül az eseményt”. A versenyt 2020-ban előreláthatólag május 31-én rendezik majd meg. (ehp)
