De Europese Economische Ruimte (EER) verenigt de EU-lidstaten en de drie EER-EVA-staten (IJsland, Liechtenstein en Noorwegen) in een interne markt waarin dezelfde basisregels gelden. Deze regels hebben als doel het vrije verkeer van goederen, diensten, kapitaal en personen in de EER mogelijk te maken, in een open en concurrerende omgeving. De Overeenkomst betreffende de Europese Economische Ruimte is op 1 januari 1994 in werking getreden.

Het Raadgevend Comité van de Europese Economische Ruimte (RC-EER) maakt deel uit van de EER-overeenkomst (artikel 96) en is in 1994 opgericht.

    The European Economic Area Consultative Committee held its 31st annual meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, on 14 and 15 March 2023. The EEA CC members discussed resolutions and reports on energy resilience in the EEA in view of the geopolitical landscape and on the future cooperation of the European Political Community (EPC).

The members of the Committee discussed the latest developments in EEA and EU/EFTA issues as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labour market, and they adopted resolutions on the following topics: "The European Green Deal" and "The EUs Industrial Strategy and the EEA"
