The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

Mūsų rubrikoje „Klausimas...“ prašome EESRK narių paaiškinti, kodėl siūloma nuomonė yra svarbi Europos teisėkūrai organizuotos pilietinės visuomenės požiūriu. Šį kartą pakalbinome nuomonės dėl strateginių ieškinių dėl visuomenės dalyvavimo (SLAPP) autorių Tomasz’ą Wróblewskį.
EESRK: Esate nuomonės SOC/734 „Žurnalistams ir teisių gynėjams apsaugoti nuo piktnaudžiavimo bylinėjimusi skirta iniciatyva“ pranešėjas. Ši nežinoma santrumpa SLAPP (angl. Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation, strateginiai ieškiniai dėl visuomenės dalyvavimo) reiškia strateginius ieškinius dėl visuomenės dalyvavimo demokratinėse diskusijose. SLAPP praktika kenkia saviraiškos laisvei, visų pirma tiriamosios žurnalistikos atstovams, nes ji naudojama teisminio bauginimo ir persekiojimo tikslais. Siekdama su tuo kovoti, Europos Komisija siūlo ES direktyvą dėl strateginių ieškinių dėl visuomenės dalyvavimo. Kaip EESRK vertina šį pasiūlymą ir koks turėtų būti jo poveikis?
