The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is the voice of organised civil society in Europe.

The EESC issues between 160 and 190 opinions and information reports a year.
It also organises several annual initiatives and events with a focus on civil society and citizens’ participation such as the Civil Society Prize, the Civil Society Days, the Your Europe, Your Say youth plenary and the ECI Day.

The EESC brings together representatives from all areas of organised civil society, who give their independent advice on EU policies and legislation. The EESC's326 Members are organised into three groups: Employers, Workers and Various Interests.

The EESC has six sections, specialising in concrete topics of relevance to the citizens of the European Union, ranging from social to economic affairs, energy, environment, external relations or the internal market.

In de tweede helft van 2021 zal Slovenië voor de tweede maal het voorzitterschap van de Raad van de EU bekleden. En opnieuw valt het Sloveense voorzitterschap in een cruciale periode voor Europa.
In 2008 had de EU te kampen met de financiële crisis en vandaag worstelt zij nog met de sociaal-economische gevolgen van de COVID-19-pandemie. Het hoeft dan ook niet te verbazen dat crisisparaatheid en -weerbaarheid, met name op het gebied van gezondheid, naast andere strategische uitdagingen zoals cyberbeveiliging, tot de belangrijkste prioriteiten van het Sloveense voorzitterschap behoren. Tijdens het Sloveense voorzitterschap zullen ook veel van de taken in verband met de Conferentie over de toekomst van Europa moeten worden uitgevoerd.
Het EESC ziet ernaar uit om nauw samen te werken met het Sloveense voorzitterschap, niet in het minst omdat onze prioriteiten gelijklopen: herstel, een rechtvaardige ecologische en digitale overgang en verdediging van de rechtsstaat staan ook centraal in de werkzaamheden van het EESC.
