Presidents of the EESC and National and Economic and Social Councils call for a strong Just Transition Framework

On June 19, 2024, the EESC together with the Central Council of the Economy (CCE) and the National Labour Council (CNT) hosted the "Annual Meeting of the Presidents and Secretaries-General of the national ESCs and the EESC," bringing together key leaders from the EESC and Economic and Social Councils across the EU. The meeting provided a platform to discuss pressing socio-economic issues and share best practices. The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration and coherence in addressing the EU’s multifaceted challenges, fostering a unified approach to sustainable development.
Following this, on June 20, 2024, the joint seminar "Transitions towards a Digital, Green, Just, and Competitive Europe: The Role of Social and Civil Dialogue" explored how a new sustainable growth strategy could address obstacles to creating a competitive, just, and low-carbon economy. It featured diverse voices from EU and national institutions, academia, and research institutes, emphasizing the critical role of social and civil dialogue in supporting public policies and the twin transition towards a digital and green economy. This collaborative effort aimed to enhance the effectiveness of the EU's strategic initiatives through genuine dialogue and cooperation.
During the meeting, the Presidents and Secretaries-General of the EU ESCs and the EESC called for a strong Just Transition Framework that leaves no-one behind. Social Partners and Civil Society Organisations must be effectively involved at all stages of the transitions and the EESC as well as national ESCs stand ready to play their part.
