Citizens can defeat disinformation

This conference in Athens is the third event on disinformation being hosted by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) as part of its ongoing project aiming to fight disinformation with the help of civil society.

Disinformation tends to spread among the general public, often horizontally: thus, the best way to tackle this problem is not through a top-down approach, but by directly engaging citizens in discussion and reflection. This is where organised civil society can play a crucial role.

This EESC project consists of organising events and information campaigns in Member States and candidate countries. Greece has been selected for this third conference following successful campaigns in Bulgaria and Moldova. The EESC is hosting this event in cooperation with the Greek General Secretariat for Communication and Media.

The conference will bring together representatives of the Greek authorities, civil society organisations, and EESC members, along with representatives of other EU institutions, and will also involve members of the international gaming community, as well as Greek academics, journalists, social media experts and influencers.
