President Röpke discusses elections, enlargement and future cooperation with European Parliament's President Metsola
On 31 August, President Röpke met with Roberta Metsola, the President of the European Parliament. During their exchange, the Presidents discussed the importance of the upcoming 2024 European Parliament elections, including the possible cooperation and support of the EESC in the campaign to increase voters' turnout.
President Röpke underlined that the European elections provide an opportunity to strengthen the collaboration between the EESC and the European Parliament and agreed with President Metsola to work on a new and refreshed cooperation agreement between the EESC and the European Parliament.
The two Presidents also discussed about Ukraine and the EU enlargement. In this context, President Röpke explained the work of the EESC Ukraine Civil Society Platform and presented his initiative to gradually involve EU candidate countries in the work of the EESC, through the appointment of the Honorary Enlargement Members.
