EESC President

EESC President met with President elect António Costa, President Roberta Metsola and new leadership of the European Parliament

This week, European Economic and Social Committee President Oliver Röpke held a series of high-level meetings with key EU leaders to discuss pressing strategic priorities.

He engaged with the President-elect of the European Council, António Costa, for the first time in his new capacity focusing on enlargement as a geostrategic investment, cohesion, competitiveness and migration. The discussions also covered ensuring that civil society plays a central role in decision-making both in the EU and abroad.

President Röpke also met with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and the newly elected Vice-President Younous Omarjee in charge of the EESC to explore ways to reinforce cooperation between the Committee and the European Parliament. Their dialogue focused on synergies for the new legislative term, especially on socio-economic and international matters. This collaboration builds on the cooperation agreement signed between the two institutions in May.

In addition, President Röpke engaged with the newly elected chairs of the European Parliament Committees to discuss on key shared priorities for the upcoming term. He also had a productive meeting with Commissioner-designate Roxana Mînzatu, exploring potential collaborations, particularly in her portfolio on People, Skills and Preparedness, following her confirmation hearing.
