Enhancing Fiscal Transparency through Participatory Budgeting in the EU

The need for open and transparent budgetary processes has never been more critical. There is a debate about a paradigm shift towards open budgets in the EU –a framework that encompasses not only participatory budgeting but a broader spectrum of fiscal transparency and citizen engagement across all stages of the budget cycle. This approach is aimed at enhancing the responsiveness and effectiveness of EU budget allocations, thereby fostering a more resilient, inclusive, and democratic European economy.

The EESC is organising this public hearing to discuss how to enhance budget transparency through participatory budgeting in the EU.

The event is organised on 11 September 2024 starting at 10:00 and is accessible via webstream. No registration is needed.

Findings of the hearing will feed into the policy proposals of the EESC opinion "Enhancing Fiscal Transparency through Participatory Budgeting in the EU"  that will be adopted at the EESC plenary of 23-24 October 2024.
