Industry 5.0 – how to make it happen

Industry 5.0 is a new approach supporting a vison of industry that aims beyond efficiency and productivity as the sole goals, and reinforces the role and the contribution of industry to society. As described by the European Commission, "it places the wellbeing of the worker at the centre of the production process and uses new technologies to provide prosperity beyond jobs and growth, while respecting the production limits of the planet. "It complements the existing "Industry 4.0" approach by specifically putting research and innovation at the service of the transition to a sustainable, human-centric and resilient European industry. It serves three of the Commission priorities: "An economy that works for people", "European Green Deal" and "Europe fit for the digital age". The EESC is also convinced that Industry 5.0 will also contribute to the flagship initiative calling for an EU Blue Deal.

This opinion will reflect on how to make the theoretical concept of Industry 5.0. operational on the ground and it will analyse how to ensure a blue and green transition for the European industry as well as a human-centred and inclusive approach to digitalisation.

This opinion is part of the EESC pilot "Enlargement Candidate Members (ECM)" where representatives from Turkey will take part in the study groups an in the Section meeting. The Turkish representatives are: Özgür Burak Akkol (Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations (TİSK), for Group I), Cavit Demiral (Confederation of Turkish Real Trade for Group II) and Ayşe Yürekli (Women Entrepreneurs Association of Türkiye, for Group III).
