Letter of Solidarity with Argentinians Trade Unions - 9th may

On behalf of the Workers' Group, I want to express our full support with the tens of thousands of Argentinians that will take the streets of the capital Buenos Aires protesting against President Javier Milei's Decree of Necessity and Urgency 70/2023 on the 9th of May.

We are extremely concerned by the neoliberal austerity measures imposed by the Argentinian President Milei. The transformation of the Argentina's economy and the reduction of the size of the state will rise additionally the poverty in the country and the annual inflation is expected to reach 200% by the end of the year. Moreover, this directive will deprive the workers from their rights and will accelerate economic deregulation.

We fully support and send our solidarity with the Argentinian people to fight against the imposed austerity, the limitation of the labour and trade union rights, like the right to protest. It is an obvious attempt by the Argentinian government to openly and deliberately discipline the various trade union organisations that are fighting to change material conditions, within the recognised limits of national and international legislation.

The stakes are high at this crucial moment for Argentinians. It's not only about social justice and defending labour rights, it's about defending the democracy won more than 40 years ago.

We stand by you, with your own motto
"Not one step back!"
