The involvement of youth in the work of the ECO section - Recent experience and way forward

The EU Youth Test was created by organisations of the civil society who considered that there was a pressing need for the inclusion of young people in policy making. In 2023, the EESC was the first EU institution to implement it, starting with a pilot project. The ECO Section decided to involve youth in one of its opinions, by inviting youth representatives to meetings and roundtables in 10 countries of the EU. In the future, our section and the EESC wishes to continue consulting youth representatives of organised civil society in several areas of economic policy, such as financial markets, taxation, cohesion policy and economic governance.

With this public hearing, we aim at taking stock of the implementation of the EU Youth Test so far, and discuss on the importance of integrating youth people's view in decision making and the economic policy areas in which they have the greatest interest. To do this, we are delighted to be bringing together at this event EESC members, the European Youth Forum and the youth representatives that have already contributed to our work.

The event will take place on 17 May 2024, from 10:00 to 11:15 hours.

The debate is accessible via webstream. No registration is needed.
