The 2024 edition of the annual European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) Day will be held in a completely new framework: the EESC´s first Civil Society Week, which will be taking place on 4 - 7 March and entitled Rise Up for Democracy!  

Together with our traditional ECI Day partners – the Bertelsmann Stiftung, Democracy International, European Citizen Action Service and The ECI Campaign – we invite you to come along to discuss the following topics with us: How can follow-up to successful ECIs be made more effective? Is there a possible interconnection between the ECI and European Citizens´ Panels, and if so, would it have a greater impact? What are the success factors for e-democracy initiatives? 

At the same time, our practical how-to workshops will give you useful tips and hints on how to build an alliance to support your ECI and how to make best use of the ECI support infrastructures at your disposal. 

ECI organisers and stakeholders will be also available at special stands to present their ongoing initiatives and ECI-related work. 

Join us and engage with high-level institutional representatives, civil society organisations and ECI organisers and supporters! Make your voice heard! 

ShapeECI Day  

The European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) is a welcome instrument for participatory democracy at European level. Introduced by the Lisbon Treaty, it entered into force in 2012 and allows Europeans to make legislative proposals and participate in decision-making by connecting directly with EU institutions. It is a chance for members of the public to discuss and influence key policies and it sheds further light on the public's view of the EU's agenda and priorities. The ECI Day is an important forum and platform where registered and future ECI organisers and stakeholders can exchange information and experiences and present their initiatives and activities to the public.
